Congratulations girls golfers!

The Wayne Lady Blue Devils broke the school records for 9 hole total in a tournament with a 161 and for 18 holes total in a tournament with a 336.  The previous record of 341 was shot back in 2001.  Joslyn also tied (Amy Harder) the school record with a 76.

The Wayne High Girls golf team traveled to Cedar View Country in Laurel Saturday for the LCC Invite.  For the 2nd time in 3 days the top teams in Class C District 3's top teams battled it out on the course in a preview of the October 8th district final.  The Lady Blue Devils would come out firing on all cylinders on the front nine.  Wayne attacked the narrow fairways and small greens on their way to shooting their best 9 holes of the season (161).  Wayne's top 3 golfers (Joslyn Johnson, Carli Canham, and Charli Sievers) would all shoot a 3 over par 39 on the front.  Lindsay Niemann would round out the top 4 for Wayne with a 44 and Rylynn Owen shot a personal best 52.  The back nine started hot for the Blue Devils with birdies by Johnson and Sievers.  The Blue Devils would play solid golf on the back nine and would go to shoot a new school record 18 hole team total of 336.  The old school record of 341 was shot in 2001.  Leading the way for Wayne in scoring was LCC Invite Champion Joslyn Johnson with a 18 hole score of 76 (which ties the school record for 18 holes held by Amy Harder).  Johnson found herself in another (5th time this season) epic duel with West Holt's Daleni Knust as the two would go into the 17th hole tied.  Johnson would par 17 over Knust's bogey and hold on for the one shot win. Other scores for Wayne were 3rd place medalist Charli Sievers (81) -- this is Sievers new personal best and 2nd low 80s score in the past week, 4th place medalist Carli Canham (82) -- another personal best and 2nd score in the 80s this week, 9th place medalist Lindsay Niemann (97) -- a great job all day scrambling around the trees and still being able to score, and Rylynn Owen (109) -- personal best round and played extremely steady all day and just keeps getting better each outing.  Wayne next travels to O'Neill for the MidStates Conference Tournament on Thursday and then will host Districts on Tuesday October 8th.

"What a day for the Lady Blue Devils!!!!  Girls came out relaxed and had some fun and the scores really showed it. I was so impressed with how the girls were able to attack the course and its difficult greens.  If a bad shot happened they just moved on to the next.  Each girl played well and did some really great things.  336 is a new school record and the girls were stoked.  Even with the highest of highs, each girl immediately said 'It could've been better." That is what makes this group so great, they won't settle but continue to push themselves to be better.  We will get back to work on Monday looking to defend the Conference title on Thursday." -- Coach Johnson
