The Wayne High Girls golf team played in the NSAA Class C State Tournament on Monday and Tuesday. The Lady Blue Devils played Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte. Monday saw the temperatures go up and down with some wind. The Lady Blue Devils scores kind of went the same way. Each girl found a little trouble either in the native grass or some of the sand bunkers. Wayne fought throughout day one and shot a team score of 412. Leading the way for Wayne was Carli Canham (90) followed by Hallie Heithold (92), Rylynn Owen (104), Claire Reinke (126) and Avery Gubbels (145).
Day two found the temperatures in the upper 40s to lower 50s with a little mist and drizzle parts of the day. The Lady Blue Devils were focused and ready to play though. The girls played much better as a team. Wayne got around the course and kept the big scores off the scorecard for the most part. In the end Wayne would shoot their best team score of the year, 388. This gave the Lady Blue Devils a 2-day total of 800 and a 9th place finish. Individually, 13th Place State Medalist Senior Carli Canham led the way for Wayne with a 2-day total of 174 (90-84). Canham battled back after some first nine struggles but played a solid last 27 holes. Canham sealed the medal with a par on the 18th hole. Senior Hallie Heithold played extremely steady for two days and kept big scores off her scorecard. Heithold hit a lot of fairways and was awesome on the 5-8 foot putts. She battled for a medal for two days but ended up a little short shooting a very impressive 2-day total of 183 (92-91). Senior Rylynn Owen really found her groove on day two and kept the big number off the scorecard. She finished 3 over on the last 4 holes to shoot a day two score of 96 and a 2-day total of 200 (104-96) in her first State Tournament. Senior Claire Reinke was plagued on day one with some of the native grass and it led to a few issues but she came back extremely solid on day two. Reinke fought to a 2-day total of 243 (126-117) in her first State Tournament. Freshman Avery Gubbels got some extremely valuable state golf experience. Gubbels just picked up the game but has quickly earned a varsity spot and played well in her first trip to the big stage. Gubbels really found a way to "finish" her round on day two and played her last four holes twelve strokes better than day one. Gubbels finished the tournament with a 2-day total of 295 (145-150).
"I can not say enough about these girls. They have impressed me all year and the State Tournament was no different. The Seniors really led the way for us. We joked a bit that we were just going down to have fun and not worry about scores, but I knew better than that. These girls are competitors and wanted to play well. It showed with them shooting their best score of the year on the biggest stage. I am gonna miss these 4 seniors a ton!!!! The van rides are gonna be a lot different next year. I am super excited for our freshmen coming back and seeing what they can do over the next three years.” Coach Josh Johnson.
Parents/Guardians,
Because medical costs can be expensive, Wayne Community Schools, provides families the opportunity to purchase student accident insurance on their student through Student Assurance Services, Inc.
This supplemental policy would assist with your out-of-pocket medical expenses (i.e. deductible) should your student sustain an accidental injury while coverage is in effect. Also, if you do not have any insurance on your student, this would be primary for accidental injuries. There is a variety of coverage options and premiums are a one-time payment for the school year.
