Inclement Weather Policy
Balancing the importance of regular attendance at school and safety is an important aspect of making decisions on school closings or late starts. We also understand communicating the decision to close school is key to making sure there is a safe transition to the change in schedule when it is decided school is closing or starting late. The safety of staff and students will be of our utmost concern when weather conditions pose a threat to bus, student, and staff transportation. Every effort will be made to inform parents and the community about school closing announcements in a timely manner. Parents should have backup plans for their students in the event of school closings and should discuss them early in the school year, prior to the winter months, to alleviate any inconvenience to work schedules and supervision of their children.
Blackboard Connect School Message System
Weather related school closings and other pertinent school announcements will be sent on the district message system. If you are not getting the messages contact the school office. E-mail and text messages are also sent through this system.
TV & Radio Stations
Students and parents may also tune radios to the local radio station, KTCH AM/FM, to listen for announcements. KTIV, KCAU and KMEG are also notified of late starts or closings due to inclement weather.
When it is known outside of school hours that school will be closed or there will be a late start, the announcement will generally be made the night before or the day of prior to 6:00 AM. If a late start is called and a decision is made there will be no school the morning of the late start, the decision will be made by 8:00 AM.
When it becomes necessary to dismiss school during the school day due to poor weather conditions, announcements will be made about one hour prior to the dismissal of students.
