History of Wayne Elementary
Wayne Elementary School was built in 1959 as a kindergarten through sixth grade school. At that time, it had 175 students and 11 faculty members, but no in-house principal.

In the 1963-1964 school year, a half-time principal position was added. This turned into a full-time position during the 1964-1965 school year. In the fall of 1967, the fifth and sixth grades were combined with the seventh and eighth grades for a new Middle School and Wayne Elementary became a kindergarten through fourth grade building.

Since the 1973-1974 school year the School has maintained three sections of each grade. Due to a continually growing enrollment, four classrooms and two offices were added to the west end of the building in the fall of 1990. Students moved into this addition at the start of the second semester of the 1990-1991 school year.
