9th Grade Library Unit

Course description: Information literacy--understanding how to access and use information—is at the core of lifelong learning. A strong school library media program is essential to help students acquire the skills they will need in school and beyond. The K-12 library media program is integrated into the school’s curriculum and supports the educational goals and objectives of Wayne Community Schools. The ninth grade library unit is one component of the total program. It is part of the Lit/Comp and English 9 curriculum. This unit draws upon the American Library Association’s national standards for information literacy and the Nebraska State Standards for Reading. It serves as a way for freshman to become familiar with the Wayne High School Library Media Center and the services that take them beyond the physical walls to fulfill their informational needs. The students will explore individual interests while using research tools. They will demonstrate proficiency locating and using information in both print and non-print formats. Outside time may be needed to complete assignments. Students should consider using the library during study hall time and before and after school.
